Nadine Hughes, simply put, is a legend and an icon in the Austin drag community.
From the days of Kiss & Fly, to Castros, to Sellers, to Rain, and every gay bar in between, Nadine has been entertaining Austin for more than 20 years.
But it's more than just her personality that's "winning". Nadine is no stranger to the pageant world, and has competed in, and won, many, many, many titles in her time.
Known for her huge hair, huge jewelry, and huge personality, Nadine is truly an Austin favorite. She's known all across the US, but we're lucky Austin is where she calls home.
Aside from being the current Miss Texas FFI at Large she is also the current Miss Gay Austin America. You can catch her at Rain on 4th where she is the Show Director! As well as at The Deep Eddy Vodka Tasting room where she hosts Brunch!
In this Q&A with queer artist Robert Alvarez, we discuss the importance of identity and representation, the challenges of finding a sense of belonging in a rapidly changing city like Austin, and the power of art to inspire.
